My sincere goal is to provide reasonable pricing with the highest quality results to allow artists to maximize their profit on the prints that I produce – as a fine art photographer I’m acutely aware of the high costs of digital capture and printing services which is the reason I’ve made this investment in the equipment and skills required to produce my own photographs and I’m pleased to share this capability with fellow artists – certainly let me know if you have any questions or constructive feedback on any of these services or pricing – transparency in communication is important to me.

Art up to 8.5” x11” size can be scanned as a full resolution tiff format plus I’ll provide a medium resolution jpeg for Facebook/Instagram use. Includes 5×7 printed proof on Entrada Rag Matte paper – $50 (excluding GST)

Single Digital Image SLR Capture

Single image digital SLR capture with a max size of 36MP (actual size depends on art work cropping requirements) tiff format plus I’ll provide a medium resolution jpeg for Facebook/Instagram use. Includes 5×7 printed proof on Moab Entrada Rag Matte paper. These captures are good for print sizes up to 14”x20” natively (actual size depends on artwork cropping requirements). I also have the ability to use advanced image scaling software that can double the resolution to 72MP for a maximum print size of 28”x40” but some images will be subject to scaling artifacts with this approach – $75 (excluding GST).

Stitched digital capture image for large resolution reproduction up to 44” wide. Some artwork may not be a candidate for stitching – that will have to be assessed upon inspection of the painting or of an image of the painting that the artist provides prior to agreeing to do the capture session. Resolution depends on final print size requirements which must be provided prior to digital capture being done. Includes 5×7 printed proof on Moab Entrada Rag Matte paper – $150 (excluding GST)

Prints

For prints, if it is from an image file provided by the artist, I will first assess the image for suitability to print at the sizes requested. Prior to doing a full run of prints, I will first produce a 5”x7” proof from that image which the artist will approve prior to beginning the print run. If adjustments are required and doable to ensure the best quality prints those will be available at $50/hour rate – most such adjustments take less than an hour – if not I’ll recommend that new images be taken and provide guidance on how to improve on that capture or you can ask me to perform the digital capture based on above pricing. Payment is due upon approval of the proof and prior to the actual print run.

While I do follow a fully colour calibrated workflow from capture to printing, you should note that the Epson printer P8000 (as with all printer technology) that I use has a specific colour gamut which represents the range of colours and saturations of those colours that it can reproduce. It is a very wide colour range (gamut), but may not be able to fully reproduce all colours in some artwork – especially with artwork that has highly saturated colours . This is the reason that I provide a proof of your image so you can see how that image will look when printed before proceeding with your order. Having said all that, so far it has not been an issue with the artwork that I’ve captured and printed images of to date.

Paper Prints

I follow a simple formula for the cost of prints – $10/sq. ft based on the actual size of the paper used (not the image size). This is because my biggest cost for prints is the paper itself. The actual printed area size will also depend on the crop ratio of the image (which is decided by the ratio of the artwork’s length and width) and what paper size is selected. Unless otherwise instructed I do maximize the image area and on certain sizes I can do borderless to maximize that image area, but typically I recommend a minimum of 1/4” border. I can provide the prints as printed or trimmed to the size desired (i.e. 11”x14” trimmed from a 11”x17” paper size).

I also highly recommend archival fine art inkjet papers for maximum print longevity, but if you have specific needs for non-archival or specialized papers I can certainly accommodate that. I can provide 5”x7” test prints on a variety of types of paper at a cost of $2.50 per test print if you would like to test different papers to see how your print looks on those different paper types before choosing the paper you’d like a full print run with.

I can do any custom sizes up to 44” wide but again the cost will be based on the actual paper size used (including borders). For custom sizes where I use roll paper rather than sheet paper, note that roll paper comes in standard sizes of 13”, 17”, 24”, 36” and 44” so those widths are the ones that would used for pricing.

If you require an accurate price for your prints, provide me with the size of your artwork if I’m going to do the digital capture or provide me with your source image along with desired print sizes and I will provide you with a price quote.

UV Protective coating – add $2/sq. ft – this involves coating the print with 3 coats of inkjet specific protective matte lacquer to provide additional protection of the printed image including UV protection. This is recommended if the print is not going to be mounted under glass or will be subject to handling. Note: Prior to mounting, all fine art prints should be handled with cotton gloves to avoid contamination by the oils on fingers and thus maximize longevity.

Canvas Prints

Note that Canvas comes in rolls with standard widths of 13”, 17”, 24”, 36” and 44” so your canvas print cost will be based on the minimum width that is needed to print your desired canvas image size. Also keep in mind that the canvas will need a border of 1.5” on all sides for wrapping which I can print in a gallery wrap style of your choice (solid colour such as black, mirror wrapped or blank canvas) and this border reduces the image area available on each of these widths by 3”.

Canvas prints are priced in the same way as described above for Paper Prints, but have additional services available as follows:

UV Protective coating – add $2/sq. ft – this involves coating the print with 3 coats of inkjet specific protective matte lacquer to provide protection of the printed image including UV protection. This is highly recommend for canvas prints.

Stretching on a canvas frame – add $5/sq. ft – I stretch your canvas on custom build canvas frames that are guaranteed against warping – any frame that does warp will be replaced at no cost – even if it happens once you’ve sold the print.
